The Morning Show with Declan Meehan

It was a jam-packed show today, and kicked off with an exclusive on the announcement of the Wicklow football line-up for the upcoming game against Armagh. PJ Cunningham was on the phone previewing the game where as he said “the Garden County meets the Orchard County” in the Athletic Grounds on Saturday. Mary Fogarty from the People filled Declan in on all the top local and national stories, before the show turned international with a call to East Coast FM’s man in Athens Kostas Katsouras, who filled us in on what’s happening on the ground in Greece. Morning Show favourite Robbie Doyle dropped in to perform his latest track ‘Up On The Downside’ and a chat with Declan.

11- 12pm

William De Vatt, CEO of Glencree called in to studio to fill Declan in on an event they are running on Saturday about the 1916 rising and the ethics of memory. President Michael D Higgins will be delivering the opening address at the event. Ballinaclash man Stephen Kearon was on the phone to chat about with what’s happening at Clash Fest this weekend, and Father Martin Cosgrove was also on the phone with Declan to let us know about a “Mass for Encouragement” coming up at 6.30pm in Arklow R.C. church on Saturday. Author Ella Griffin was in studio to talk about her new book ‘The Flower Arrangement’. She told Declan about how she even worked in a flower shop to research the book, which is about a character called Lara who intuitively knows what people are feeling when they go to buy flowers. Newly appointed Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council John Ryan joined us to discuss plans to give the council control over Wicklow Port, and his feeling on the housing crisis. Finally, Julia Mooney dropped in from the Craic in the Granite Festival to explain what’s going on at it and she brought in The Matthews band who performed “Days Like This” and Declan played their latest single “Do You Really Want Me?” on the show.
