Katie Taylor Confirms She'll Defend Her Olympic Title In Rio

Wicklow’s four times world and Olympic boxing champion, Katie Taylor, has confirmed that she's staying amateur. The 26 year old who won Olympic gold in London this summer says she wants to defend her title in Rio 2016. Katie has been offered a number of professional deals but says she wants to stay with the Irish team.

German Chancellor Proposes Radical Powers For E.U. Finance Commissioner

The German Chancellor says the EU's top financial official should have the power to veto the national budgets of member states. In an address to the Bundestag lower house of parliament, Angela Merkel said the EU's economics commissioner should have the authority to declare a budget "invalid". However she said that "unfortunately" some EU member states were not ready for such a step. Angela Merkel was speaking ahead of todays meeting of EU leaders in Brussels. The Taoiseach Enda Kenny - who is attending the summit - will push for the implementation of agreements made earlier this year on banking debt. Last June, EU leaders agreed to use the ESM bailout fund to directly recapitalise banks.

Search Renewed For British Toddler Missing In Greece 21 Years Ago

British police officers investigating the disappearance of a toddler in Greece 21 years ago, have flown to the island of Kos to continue the search. Ben Needham vanished on the island in 1991. Despite several possible sightings and theories about what happened, there's been no trace of him. Officers from South Yorkshire will use specialist equipment to examine a mound of earth at the property where he went missing. Ben's mother Kerry believes her son was abducted and is still alive - she says this latest development is part of an elimination process.

We also discussed food poverty with Dr Clionadh Foley-Nolan from Safefood.

We also heard about the weather and flood warnings for later and tomorrow from Met Eireann. 11- 12pm •We talked to successful Wicklow heart transplant recipient Seamus Eager following the sad story of Shane Finnegan’s recent transplant failing and singer Ursula Connolly joined us for a chat ahead of her album launch tomorrow night.

We were also joined in studio by Donal O’ Dea who talked about singing ole, ole ole, taking the makings of a fry on holidays and his book about more stuff Irish people love. 11- 12pm •We discussed the skydive from the stars with Astronomy Ireland’s David Moore and were joined by Jim Healy of Chocolate Garden of Ireland and John Hempensteall of Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese who chatted about recent awards and the business. With only 9 days to go we also chatted to Brian Geraghty, Digital Reception Manager Saorview and heard live music from Hermitage Green.
