End of week one!

Well this has probably been one of the toughest weeks of my life to date, that may sound a bit much, but for me a big guy to finally get up off his fat ass and do something about it was a feat in itself. I have gone to the gym everyday and struggled everyday but I got through it with the help of my personal trainer Alan in The Raven Gym. Last night we had our first Freshly Squeezed Get Fit Challenge as a group. Myself Laura and the five team leaders did a spinning class and I can't for the life of me know why ANYONE would put themselves through so much torture. I found it really difficult and exhausting, expected for a first time spinner but nonetheless it was extremely difficult. I sat on that bike for 60 seconds and already my ass was saying " what are you at you ***** GET UP! It was probably the most uncomfortable thing I've ever sat on, and I sat on 3 bar fire as a kid! Legs were gone, just gone. It was as if during the class my bones turned to mush. I did what I could and believe it or not I'll do it again.

Met Alan again at 5 this evening for a workout with the kettle bells and the rower, did some cardio stuff and stretched the bejaysus out of all my muscles (they are under there somewhere) and I worked up a sweat. Alan has told me to stick to my diet plan, no treats for me this weekend :( However he has given me the weekend off as I put a lot in this week which is great, although sadly in the world of radio these days there is no such thing. Oh and one final thing Alan also told me that I lost 13lbs in one week!! Get in ya daisy ;) if you are following my progress keep the faith. And in the words of the legend Ice Cube "You can do it put your back into it" ;) Talk to you again on Monday morning.

A slightly slimmer and still gorgeous,

Rob G

How Did you get on this week?
I got on well, thank you, its really mind over matter when it comes to it but as the days go by I'm doing okay, bit moody but thats not unusual lol!

Are you enjoying it? How do you feel?
Yes, I am enjoying it, more so in the latter part of the week, my personal trainer Katherine is really nice and supportive, I have lots of support from family friends and workmates, so their all encouraging me and keeping me going.

Are you sore and if so where?
My legs are a little sore and arms a little from the weights and all the movement to be honest but its good pain and its getting easier!!

What food do you miss most if any?
I can't say I'm really missing any particular food at the moment to be honest, would love some food that I cant have but that's only because I cant have it, if that makes sense.

Have you broken any/many rules?!
No I haven't broken any rules, I have really tried to be very disciplined.

What has been the highlight of the week for you?
The highlight of my week was being able to go to the gym every night and doing some form of excercise, the gym is completely new to me and I think I'm surprising myself by being able for it every day, it feels like a little achievement in itself.

Have you been motivated enough?
Yes I really have been, i have great support and encouragement and my trainer is really helpful, she motivates me really well and helps me along

Any other information you think might be helpful to share with the listeners?
I would just like to say that early nights have really been helping me alot, you do get tired and your body is tired so its good to listen to it and have plenty of rest, I would also say take one day at a time and not to think of it as 8 weeks, that's the way im looking at it and it's working for me. I'm trying to think of the experience as more of a lifestyle change then a diet as the word “Diet” is an off putting word.

Have you broken any/many rules?
No. Been a good boy.

What has been the highlight of the week for you?
Getting back to the gym. Needed the motivation.

More than I thought. Graham my trainer is top class he has made the next 8 weeks so exciting rather than gruelling.

My profile states that my weight is 13 Stone but my scales at home seems to love me to much. Graham and the Raven Gym’s scales state that I’m 13.7.

How did you get on this week?
I got on really well, I met my fitness instructor Amira and she gave me a fitness plan to stick to. I have had two workouts so far and been given a diet and fitness plan to stick to.

Are you enjoying it?
I am enjoying the fitness sessions so far! I'm also enjoying learning about all of the different types of exercises and how to use the machines in the gym.

How do you feel?
I am in good spirits but very tired! The muscles in my legs are sore from the workouts but that has to be a good thing!

Where are you sore?
My legs are the only area that are painful, especially on the outer thighs.

What food do you miss?
I miss eating carbs especially potatoes as I used to have them with most meals. I also miss having the odd glass of wine and packet of crisps!

Have you broken any rules?
No, I really want to get healthy!

What has been the highlight of your week?
I was very excited to be picked for the challenge!! I also enjoyed my first assessment when everything was explained to me.

Have you been motivated enough?
I feel that I have been very motivated so far.

Have you any helpful information for our listeners?
I have learned that the best thing for someone who wants to lose weight to do is to join a gym. With the correct information and help from the trainers it is much easier to stick to a fitness plan, and you notice the effects almost immediately! They also give you advice on what food to eat and at what times during the day to eat the different food types.

Rob's Get Fit Challenge

Hello there,

Well it's been a tough enough week to be honest. The Get Fit Challenge is in full swing and I have been doing my bit too. My first day with my personal trainer Alan involved sretches, squats, and the dreaded plank amongst others. Alan was checking my mobility to see how much he could do with me and the answer was plenty! The kettle bells were brought in eventually, not too heavy, a doddle at first but after two minutes of thinking "this is easy" and showing off I began to feel the pain, have sweat run off me, get short of breath and then have Alan say "great Rob, this will be one of you're main exercises" MARVELLOUS!!

The next day (yesterday) was a sore one! The front and back of my thighs were killing me. Changing gear while driving and putting my foot on the clutch was painful not to mention walking in general and getting up and DOWN stairs. But I had to push through it last night with the help of some stretches and then it was time for me to use the treadmill and something I had never used before, the rowing machine, that was a killer but I got it done. Sore again this morning and back tonight in The Raven Gym for an "extensive" workout. Not looking forward to it, but I'm hoping down the road I'll get to enjoy working out.

My diet has changed dramatically too. No sugars, no grains (that's all breads, rice etc) And a lot more protein and vegetables. So I have to eat plenty of fish, red meat, chicken, turkey, eggs the lot. I'll put up my diet plan here tomorrow.

Laterz,

Rob

First training session!

Well here I am (not). I've just returned home from my first training session with Ian in The Raven as part of the challenge and it was difficult but enjoyable at the same time! I had a fitness test first (running a Kilometre as fast as possible), then went through a fifteen minute circuit training session and then did a fit mix class (spinning, resistance and abs). Not bad for day one, although my head is purple and I sense some John Wayne walking after those lunges and squats! I'm off bread for two weeks to see how it affects my weight but I'm allowed potatoes still (Thank God). We have our Freshly Squeezed group class on Thursday evening so I'll be back with some photos after that (before the class of course, don't be worrying leaders!). I'm sure Rob will be updating you but I bumped into him at the gym and he was getting a sweat on and feeling the burn Will Ferrell style!
