Bray overcome stern UCD Test

A Danny O'Connor goal was enough to give Bray Wanderers their first away win over UCD since 2001 and so continue their good start to the Airtricity Premier Division.

Tomas Boyle was harshly penalised for knocking over Shane O'Neill in the 68th minute. And from Joe Kendrick's free, O'Connor's close range header was deflected past Ger Barron.

The Seagulls have now maintained their 100% away winning record this season, while UCD have suffered their second home loss in a row.Within seconds of taking the lead the Seagulls could have doubled their advantage. Dave Webster's pass down the right

channel saw O'Neill outstrip the home defence, where his 30-yard
shot obbed shot over the on-rushing Barron only for the ball to find the top netting.

UCD did going close to snatching a equaliser in the 73rd minute as Matt Gregg smartly got down to palm out Webster's sliced clearance off Ciaran Nangle's cross.

Then three minutes later, sub Yael Haro angled a left footed half volley just past the far upright after connecting with Paul Corry's ball into the box.

It took a fine parried save by Gregg to keep the visitors in front in the 82nd minute as he denied Robbie Creevy after some fine one-touch fine passing by the hosts.

The first half was a forgettable affair. Despite both side's having a
lot of possession, the first real chance wasn't created until the 36th minute.

Dave Webster's long throw for the visitors was flicked by Danny
O'Connor. And John Mulroy pounced at the near post only for Ger Barron to make a reaction block.

Wanderers first corner of the contest in the 52nd minute saw them go close again. Joe Kendrick's deep delivery saw Chris Shields divert the ball over the cross-bar.

UCD, despite plenty of possession, finally mustered an
opportunity just before the hour. After Graham Rusk was fouled, Paul Corry curled the resulting free narrowly over.

Seconds later at the other end, Jake Kelly whipped in a left cross
that caught out Barron. Shields cut the ball back form the end-line
only for Boyle to clear in front of the open goal back into Barron's
arms.
