Morning Show with Declan Meehan, Friday 2nd December 2011

Friday 2nd December
The Morning Show with Declan Meehan

10- 11am

• We started the show with a caller, Julie-Anne, a local mum of three. She was talking to Declan about statistics released today about 1 in 4 three-year olds in Ireland being overweight. Ruth Kennedy did a quick round up of what’s happening in the world of Twitter. In studio, we had Eileen Earls from Wicklow Cancer Support Centre and Leo Newsome a Wicklow barman. They were promoting a charity calendar with photos of Wicklow barmen (almost) naked, who stripped off all in the aid of Wicklow Cancer support. Music journalist and comedy writer Damian Corless came in to chat to Declan about his new book “You’ll Ruin your Dinner”. It’s all about the Irish love affair with sweets, and full of stories about traditional Irish confectionary brands like Lemons and Caffreys.

11 - 12am

• Community activist Mary-Anne Kennedy spoke to us from limerick about her village Effin, which Facebook don't want her to use on her page. She is fighting for the identity of her village to be recognised worldwide. Mary-Anne is a local historian and amateur drama director, who works at the University of Limerick as an administrator. Declan said he hoped to visit the "effin village" sometime!.
Stylist and TV presenter Lisa Fitzpatrick spoke to Declan about her SOS Save our Shops programme starting on TV3 tonight. Lisa helps struggling retailers boost their customer service. On the phone was regular contributor and tech-wizard Damien Mulley talking to Declan about reports of iPhones going on fire spontaneously. John Diskin, our money advisor was in studio talking to Declan about the move away from credit to debit cards this Christmas season. Barry Orr from Betfair spoke to Declan about soccer – Euro 2012, Rugby, horseracing, Xfactor and I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here! Lynne Coyle of O’Briens Wines came in with her colleague Daniel to review three bottles of reasonably priced Italian and Portuguese wines.
