Murphy Brace seals Seagulls win

Conor Murphy marked his call-up to the Irish U19 squad with a 90th minute winner as Bray got back to winning ways.

Just as it seemed the spoils would have to be shared at the Carlisle Grounds after Ger Barron's heroic's for UCD, Daire Doyle robbed Paul Corry of the ball in midfield and released Murphy to side foot low past Barron from 12-yards to send the Wicklow outfit back up to fifth in the Premier Division table.

Barron had impressed with two saves with his knees to prevent Jake Kelly and Murphy for scoring in two separate chances in the 81st minute. Then the strike pair combined to set up skipper Gary Dempsey in the 86th minute for the custodian to make another kicked save. Wanderers had gone in front after just eight minutes.

A ball intended for Darren Meehan was cut-out by Dane Massey who sent Kelly clear along the left flank. The winger slipped a pass on for Massey who carried on his run to the end-line and sent in a low centre across the face of goal.

The covering Sean Russell then got tangled up at the back post where Murphy tapped in his fifth goal of the season. Wanderers almost doubled that lead in the 16th minute. Dempsey's deep corner was met at the back stick by Danny O'Connor who headed just over.

But the Student's drew level in the 20th minute. Russell sent over a handing cross from the left channel. And Dean Marshall was sandwiched between Dempsey and Massey's challenge which saw referee Paul Tuite point to the spot.

Marshall converted the penalty but only after Matt Gregg got a strong hand to the ball but couldn't prevent it crossing the line. And the 'Student's nearly went ahead four minutes later. Samir Belhout pounced on Gregg's mistake. Adam Mitchell made a vital goal-line block with the forward curling the follow-up wide.

They went close again in the 39th minute. Graham Rusk's run from his own half left four opponents in his wake only to shoot just off target from the edge of the box.

Then on the stroke of half time, Darren Meehan evaded Massey only for Gregg to make a good block off Belhout's close range effort. Kelly wasted the opportunity to restore Bray's advantage in the 51st minute by slicing wide from ten-yards after Shane O'Connor long throw reached him.

The Wicklow side searched for a winner with Kelly turning well into the box only to be denied by Ger Barron's push out save in the 72nd minute. Seconds later, the unmarked Dempsey headed wide just six-yards when connecting with Shane O'Connor's cross from the right.
