Rovers Claim League Trophy on Goal Difference

For the second season running the League Trophy was won in the Carlisle - last year by Bohemians and this season by their arch rivals Shamrock Rovers.

The Seagulls were by far the better side in the first half and opened the scoring on 20minutes with an exquisite chip over the keeper by Jake Kelly. Midway through the first half the Seagull had the ball in the net again by Kelly but the assistant referee flagged harshly for offside. minutes before the break Rovers were level from ace marksman, Gary Twigg.

The Hoops went ahead straight from kick off in the second period when Thomas Stewart sidefooted past Matt Gregg to give the Hoops an undeserved lead.

Wanderers continued to play some sparkling football which was rewarded with an excellent diving header from Gary Shaw from a great cross from Daire Doyle.

The Seagulls now head to Terryland Park on Tuesday to take on Galway Utd in the Premier Division play off with high hopes of retaining their stay in the top flight.
