Bohs Sink Bray

League Champions Bohemians got back on the winning track with a comprehensive victory over Wanderers at the Carlisle last night.

Leading 2-0 at the interval with goals from Paddy Madden(9,14) they extended their lead in the second half with a goal from Killian Brennan 5 minutes after the restart.

The plan to save €500 million in the state’s 34 local authorities was just one of the topics covered on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard comment on possible cuts to county and town managers and the suggested introduction of extra levies from local councillor George Jones and Minister Dick Roche.

Today’s Morning Show was broadcast live from the Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford. We were joined in Avoca by Mount Usher Head Gardener, Sean Heffernan. We also talked about local fishing with John Wilding, Vartry Anglers Conservation Club and heard all about the Devils Glen Wodland Sculptures from Collte’s Clodagh Duffy and Michael Carey, author of “If Trees Could Talk”.

Author and local resident Sheila Clarke also joined us in Mount Usher to discuss the history of the Ashford, holiday doctor Joe Supple gave us some value travel tips and Money Watchdog John Diskin gave us advice on shopping for health insurance.

Bray Wanderers welcome Bohemians to the Carlisle Grounds, for this Crucial must win Airtricity Premier Division game for the Wicklow side ( Friday 23rd July K.O. 7;45.)


Team News is as follows.
Veteran Colm Tresson and Stephen Brennan both have Calf problems. While Long term injury victims Richie Baker and David Tyrrell are all definite non starters.

There are also doubts about James Kavanagh who had to be replaced in Monday night's Leinster Senior Cup Semi-Final win over U.C.D. due to illness, John Mulroy picked up a thigh injury in the same game. But No decision on their availability will until just be kick off,

The possible reintroduction of third level fees was just one of the topics covered on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We discussed this with Tony Donaghoue, head of education, IBEC and Independent Deputy Joe Behan. We also heard comment from USI President, Gary Redmond.

On this morning’s show we also heard why mortgages are even more inaccessible to first time buyers from Money Watchdog John Diskin, we heard about the discovery of a new star from Astonomy Ireland spokesperson David Moore and we got the line up for this weekend’s Festival of World Cultures from organiser Jennifer Jennings.

The publication of the Oireachtas report on the handling of the snow crises in January was just one of the topics covered on The Morning Show, with Declan Meehan. We got comment from Joanna Tuffy T.D., member of the Oireachteas Committee on the Environment which published the report, and we also heard from many local councilors including Cllr. Pat Casey, Cllr. David Grant, Cllr. John Ryan and Cllr. Jimmy O’Saughnessy.

Caroline Mc Guigan from Survivors of Suicide (SOS) talked to us about the increase in suicides due to financial problems.

We spoke to The Money Doctor, John Lowe about the 300,000 householders who are going to be affected by an increase in mortgage payments, when some of the major banks increase their interest rates.

We got comment from Liam Aylward MEP and James Hill from Wicklow IFA about food imports to the E.U. from other countries and how it is affecting Irish farmers and we heard from Frank Gorden from Bray Wanderers in relation to Bray Wanderers verses Middlsborough

Government spending on research, innovation and jobs was one of the topics discussed on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan, we heard comment on this from Cllr. Ciaran Hayden and Cllr. John Ryan. We also heard from Cllr. Chris Fox, Cllr. Pat Casey and Cllr. Jimmy O’Shaughnesy on the new Home Defence Bill.


Our Golf Correspondent Walter Townsend told us about the appointment of Irish golfers Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley as vice captains for the Ryder Cup. Cllr. Kathleen Kelleghar, Cllr. Simon Harris and Cllr. Eugune Finnegan talked to us about the cliff walk between Bray and Greystones.

We spoke to Gabrielle Dooley from Dooley Auctioneers about the DAFT report which indicated an increase in rental properties available in County Wicklow. We heard about the benefits of yoga and acupuncture during pregnancy and finally we found out about the Kilmacanogue Horse Show taking place this Saturday in Enniskerry.

Seagulls advance to Leinster Cup Final

Wanderers reached the final of the revived Leinster Senior Cup with a comprehensive victory over old rivals UCD at the Carlisle last night.

Ace striker Shane O'Neill scored a hat trick for the Seagulls who led 2-0 at half time. His first arriving after 22 minutes, he then netted his second six minutes later

UCD pulled one back on the hour thanks to Robbie Creavy, but Shane O'Neill put the game beyond the visitors reach on 69 minutes.when he completed his hat trick.

The Seagulls will now meet Shelbourne in the Final at a date and venue to be decided.

The issue of future flooding in the county was just one of the topics covered on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard from Cllr. Donal O’Sullivan and Cllr. Pat Doran. We also got comment from Cllr. George Jones and Green Party Cllr. Ciaran O’ Brien on the Poolbeg landfill issue which could affect county Wicklow.

Our Golf Correspondent Walter Townsend gave us a review of The Open at St. Andrew's in Scotland. Pat Rabbite Labour Party TD and member of the Public Accounts Committee talked to us about Pat Neary giving the green light to the Anglo bailout
