Last night’s speech by An Taoiseach was just one of the topics covered on todays Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard details of the speech and how it was received by reporter Padraig Gallgher who was in attendance at last night’s chamber event and we heard reaction form party colleagues, local FF Councillors Pat Casey and Pat Fitzgerald.


On this morning’s show we heard reaction to the threat to the old age pension from Age Action Ireland spokesperson Eamonn Timmins, we discussed the low percentage of Irish school students who have access to sex education with Dail na Nog member Joe Bradley and ASTI spokesperson Moira Leydon and we found out if the economy has turned a corner from Goodbody Stockbroker, Chief Economist, Dermot O’ Leary.

The serious damage on Wicklow roads was one of the main topics covered on todays Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard details of the financial impact being felt by drivers since the big freeze cause potholes from AA Spokesperson, Conor Faughnan. We also discussed the funding needed for repairs with Local councillors Jimmy O’ Shaughnessy, Pat Doran and Pat Vance and heard comment from FG TD Michael Ring.


On this morning’s show we heard reaction to the announcement of 2,000 new teaching posts from INTO spokesperson, Peter Mullan and Deputy Joe Behan, we discussed the importance of encouraging saving at a young age with Mark Bailey, President, Irish League of Credit Unions and we spoke to Macra Na Feirme Chairman, Dara Kavangh and Deputy Andrew Doyle about the future of farming.


The Morning Show also featured a discussion about a National Consumer Agency (NCA) survey which highlighted the varying costs of GP’s and dentists and the lack of accessibility to prices for these services. Declan heard details on the survey from NCA, Head of Research, Fergal O’ Leary. We also got comment from College of GP’s, PRO, Neil O’ Cleirith and Irish Dental Association spokesperson Ciara Scott.

Yesterday’s widespread closure of headshops around the country was the main topic covered on todays Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard details on this from Irish Examiner journalist Coramc O’ Keefe. We also got reaction from Grainne Kenny, EURAD who spearheaded the campaign against the shops. We heard further comment from Mayor of Arklow, Peter Dempsey, Minister Dick Roche and Spokesperson from Bray Forum against Headshops, John Nolan. Finally, we spoke to Wicklow mum, Pauline Fox for her reaction to this latest development, Pauline’s son Cillian was badly effected following the use of a headshop substance in January.

On this morning’s show we heard reaction to the new UK Prime Minister and the first UK coalition Government in 70 years from Political Analyst, Susan Philips, Former World Champion Snooker Steve Davis spoke to us ahead of his charity exhibition in the Grand Hotel in Wicklow Town, taking place this Friday, 15th May and Wicklow Garden Architect, Tim Austen joined us in studio to give garden design tips and ideas ahead of his TV appearance tonight on new TV show Supergarden. The Morning Show also featured a discussion about Broadband coverage, access and speed with Technological consultant Damien Mulley. Declan also heard a progess update on the National Rollout plan from 3 Spokesperson, Brian Purcell. We got comment on how the lack of access affects people in County Wicklow from Seamus Boland, Irish Rural Link, and we discussed current problems with Broadband availability and heard plans and needs for the future with Minister for Communications, Eamonn Ryan and TD’s Simon Coveny and Liz Mc Manus. On this morning’s show we discussed the future of tourism in the Garden County with Glendalough Hotelier Pat Casey and Wicklow County Tourism Chairperson Tom Fortune, we heard reaction to the end of Gordon Brown as Labour Leader from Political Analyst, Susan Philips and we got an overview of the European Finance rescue plan from FG MEP Mairead Mc Guinness.

The Morning Show also featured a discussion about the continuing fall of house prices with Professor of Finance, School of Business Studies, Trinity College, Brian Lucey and Arklow Auctioneer Raymond Gaffney.

St Patricks Ath. had a comfortable passage into the next round of the EA Sports cup.

The Wicklow side had not one single effort on target in 90 minutes

The home side took the lead in the 17th minute when an attempted clearance by keeper Brian Kane was blocked down by Vinny Faherty and the ball rolled into an unguarded net.

The hosts doubled there advantage on 68 minutes with another fortuitous goal, this time scored by Alex Williams.

The rescue finance deal brokered last night between European Union Ministers was just one of the topics covered on todays Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard details on this from Economics Lecturer and author of Ireland in 2050, How we will be living, Stephen Kinsella.

On this morning’s show we discussed the outcome of the UK elections with Political Analyst Susan Philips, we got an update on today’s travel disruptions from the Dublin Airport Authority and we discussed weekend golf and soccer.

The Morning Show also featured an interview about the reported 92% rise in skin cancer in Ireland. Declan discussed these worrying trends with Irish Cancer Society Health Promotion Officer, Norma Cronin and got reaction and advice from local GP, Dr Ernan Gallagher.
