Dundalk earn a smash and grab win


Dundalk snatched a lucky win in the 90th minute at the Carlisle tonight.

Wanderers had a great chance to go in front as early as the 2nd minute when Shane O'Neill's penalty was saved by Dundalk keeper Peter Cherrie.

The young Seagulls looked the better team overall but had victory taken from them when Dundalk defender Gary Breen headed home an Alan Cawley corner from eight yards.

The controversial findings of a number of children who died in state care and the delay on the report was just one of the topics covered on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard comment from Senator Alex White, spokesperson on Children.

On today’s Morning Show reporter Laura Wood gave her Oscar predictions and details on nominations with an Irish connection ahead of this weekends ceremony, we discussed the fall in Wicklow land prices and we heard a preview of weekend Wicklow sport from East Coast FM Sports correspondent Michael Sargent.

The show also featured an interview with boxing coach Pete Taylor, who joined Declan in studio to talk about world champion boxer, his daughter Katie Taylor, her upcoming fights and her St Patricks Day invitation to the White House.

We heard a further explanation of the new structure of the state pension from Economy lecturer and author Stephen Kinsella. Stephen wrote “Ireland in 2050 – How we will be Living” see www.stephenkinsella.ie

Baker and Doyle arrive at the Carlisle


Bray Wanderers today completed the signings of winger Richie Baker, and Striker Robbie Doyle.

29 year old Baker, won four league medals with Shelbourne and added to this with a league medal at Drogheda United in 2007 before returning to Tolka Park, as well as a FAI Cup Medal in 2000 in Shelbourne.

Speaking after the Baker put pen to paper Manager Eddie Gormley said "We are delighted to have signed a player of Richie's calibre and his wealth of experience will be crucial to bringing our younger players to the next level"

Baker brings a wealth of experience to the Seagulls having played at the highest level with Shelbourne, New England Revolution and Drogheda United.

Local lad Robbie Doyle spent last season with Sporting Fingal and returns to the Carlisle for his third spell having made 34 appearances previously scoring 3 goals.

BRAY V DUNDALK TEAM NEWS




Bray Wanderers play there 1000th competitive game in senior football, when they welcome Dundalk to the Carlisle Grounds.(Friday 5th March K.O.7;45.)
Team News for the Seagulls is as follows.
Dave Webster who picked up a knee injury during pre-season is still a week or two away from returning and will sit out Bray's first League game of the season against Dundalk,also missing will be Dave O'Neill who picked up a knee injury in Drogheda in Bray's final pre-season game last Sunday,there is also a doubt about veteran Colm Tresson who has a back problem.Otherwise Eddie Gormley has a full squad to pick from.

The suggestion that the parishioners in Ferns contribute to help pay compensation to Victims of clerical abuse in the diocese was just one of the topics covered on today’s Morning Show with Declan Meehan. We heard angry reaction from Child Protection Expert, journalist and author Shane Dunphy.

On today’s Morning Show we discussed the proposed protection of Greystones sporting grounds, we heard reaction to yesterday’s decision to ban headshop substances from emergency medicine consultant, Dr Chris Luke and local Green Party Councillor Ciaran O’ Brien commented on cabinet reshuffle rumours and how they may effect the Green Parlimentary Party.

The show also featured a discussion on current housing problems. Declan heard details from FF TD Charlie O’ Connor on a recent report that suggests among other things, that the Moratoreum on house repossessions is extended to help people that face losing their homes, we also discussed the mortgage interest supplement and criteria needed to be eligible with Aoife Walsh, communications officer, Respond Housing Charity. Drogs edge out Seagulls


Wanderers completed their pre season friendlies with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Drogheda Utd at United Park yesterday.

After being 2-0 down at the interval Wanderers levelled the score with goals from Ian Tuohy on 48 minutes and from Chris Shields in the 57th minute.

Drogheda scored the winner 82 minutes from Jamie Duffy.

The Seagulls begin their League campaign at home to Dundalk this coming Friday.
